Origins
Fantasia Suite is a Neo-Romantic cycle. Neo signifies a renaissance, and Romanticism, refers to the movement in the Arts, Music and Literature which occurred from the mid 19th Century through the early 20th Century. The romantic period reflected a strong focus on feelings and emotions, particularly around love, nature, dreams in contrast to the Classical period or 20th Century modernism or minimalism.
Fantasia Suite is written in a tonal, post-minimalist style which draws heavily on the 19th Century. Its style would be of interest to Chopin, or Schubert, as it would be their late Romantic peers; Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saens or Ravel.
What distinguishes Fantasia Suite Romanticism is its intimacy and yet its universality; two aspects of Romanticism not found as much in the music of its processors. Carter's own influences extend beyond, encompassing Jazz and New Age, as well as Minimalism.
This 21st century Neo-Romanticism is an artistic and eloquent response to a world filled with fear, apprehension, horror, and uncertainty. Representing a new movement in classical music.
The compositional process of Fantasia Suite is continuous. This music is cutting edge and yet grounded in the great classical traditions. Fantasia Suite's music is up-beat, refreshing, sophisticated, and accessible.
Larsen has strategically cultivated his creativity, focusing on the development of Romanticism through CDs, DVDs, videos, concert tours and publicity including radio and television appearances. These important steps form the backbone of paving the way for the enterprise to come.
Fantasia Suite Foundation's mission is to support its artists through the worldwide promotion and education of this new 21st century Romanticism.
